Well this seems to go on from month to month...I have had to go through a seemingly unnecessary procedure to make a complaint each time my download speeds suddenly go down.....I am on a 8Mbit connection and live less than a mile from the exchange. The best download speeds I have managed to get was 6.7Mbps which after some twiddling with my profile I told them I was reasonably happy with....however over the past three months it all of a sudden goes down to <5Mbps and I have had to get in touch with them again...the last time about four days ago, I had an email saying that it was being escalated to the networking team and they would contact me within 24-48 hours...guess what nada.....then yesterday they had the cheek to send me an email with a customer satisfaction survey (How did we do?) well you can guess my reply to all of the questions. I have since tried to get a reply from them today but to no avail.....to be honest when I started out with Homecall/pipex/tiscalli/talk talk I was reasonably happy with their customer service, but it is now less than I expect.

Exactly the same problem here. I am wondering if it's all related to Pipex migrating to the Tiscali backbone which apparently happened recently.
I'm off though, I have soooo had enough of Pipex since Tiscali and lately TalkTalk have taken over.
I've been with Pipex for a long time, 5+ years, but enough is enough.

My speed goes from 1.8Mbps real (downloading) to 200 - 400kbps (downloading) in the afternoon/evening every day (currently downloading Opera Classic, 9.8MB, at 150 - 200kbps!).
The regularity of the slowdown suggests that there is some throttling at either Tiscali's end or by BT in the exchange.

I agree that their throttling the connection speeds, but this has only started happening withing the last 2-3 weeks.
Too much of a coincidence that after midnight my connection goes up to about 4-6 Mbs.
Damn annoying...

The problems with speeds are most probably occuring due to most of customers being migrated over to Talktalk/Opal networks.

to Pipex CC
what does that mean then, are we going to have to put up with slower speeds from now on? Some time ago I was put on a Pipex/Tiscalli LLU and my speeds were steady for months and months....There is still no excuse for lack of contact from Pipex customer care is there!!

I was told (by Pipex tech. 'support') that there would be much more LLU, but there seems to be no detail on Pipex's site.
We could certainly do with some information on when (if) this slow service will get less bad!

Okay, I am now with My Post Office as from today. Miracle of miracles, my download speed is 6,4Mbs, whereas with Pipex at this time of night, I would've been less than 1Mbs.
Sums them up really, doesn't it?
For anyone interested, I got my MAC from Pipex and 10 days later, both phone services and broadband have gone to My Post Office.
For £25 pm I've got unlimited broadband and an inclusive call package evenings and weekends along with free calls to overseas countries including Australia and USA (the ones I really wanted!!)
Go on, jump ship from that shower of uselessness called PIpex....

I contacted pipex/talktalk/crapservers and spoke to customer service who were not any help and directed me to technical who more or less told me to put up and shut up.....saying 5Mbps was good....definately looking at virgin media although would cost me a few quid more. Before talktalk took over I was getting 6.7Mbps download virtually at all times.
