This might be one for the Pipex staff who look in now and again. It was reported in a national newspaper that Talk Talk were going to take over a million Tiscali customers. They were also going to increase the cost of their broadband by 33%. I am concerned that Talk Talk may do this to Pipex customers also. Anyone have any info on this?

Pipex have just answered my question. They are upping their price from £9.99 to £14.99 whether I like it or not. They are offering a package of phone calls and upgrade to 8meg. No use to me. Time to look elsewhere maybe!

Not sure what is happening as there's been no communication from Pipex/Homecall.

AIUI, the increase is for those that don't have 'phone line via Pipex snd so far the price has remained the same.

Still looking at Plusnet but a bit worried about the speed limits.

I received a letter from Pipex subject Pipex Update.
It told me I am a highly valued customer and they wanted to let me know they have just completed upgrade work and they are starting to put all customers on to their "up to 8Mb" package. As from 1st March I will be on this new package which includes Pipex Anytime and Line Rental all for a monthly subscription of £28.47.
My current package is "up to 1Mb" Line Rental, Geographic anytime calls, Caller ID, 1571 all for £20.
So I called them and asked when this new speed would start. I was told it was already active but that I would be unlikely to get greater than 5Mb.
I told them that I had done my own test and that the MAXIMUM speed the line could manage at my location is 0.5 Mb, so to try and tell me I was getting something better was rubbish. In effect I was told I knew nothing and that anyway I had no option other than to accept their new package.
I then phoned Pipex Technical Dept who confirmed that my line is from a regulated exchange and that the maximum line speed is .5Mb and that I should be lucky if I get 0.25Mb. They confirmed no upgrade work has been done nor is it planned.
End result no increase on 0.25Mb for an increase of over 42% in price.
It seems that the recent spate of takeovers Toucan / Pipex / Tiscali / TalkTalk has left the remaining providers in a highly monopolistic position from which they feel they can dictate huge price hikes and continue to provide almost zero service.
End of Rant.

Hi I have the same problem pipex are putting my price up to 28.47 also but my work colleague has had the same letter telling him there price has gone down to 22.46 so i copied there letter and phoned pipex they said it was because i am in a non llu area and there equipment is not at my exchange but it is at my colleagues exchange there is a website called www.samknows.com/ which gives you all the info about the exchanges in your area anyway pipex said it was bt's fault for not unbundling the lines at my exchange and there was nothing they can do so they will loose a hell of alot of business, i am also a sky customer but cannot get their free broadband because of the same issue despite having problems with pipex i have stayed loyal to them because over the last year and a half every thing has been fine i even switched my line from bt to them but i am very dissapointed as the letter states we are highly valued customers yeah right if we were they would make allowances and keep our prices the same. I am definately looking for another provider but fortunatley i am not tied to a contract with them but for the people who did take out a contract did so for a certain amount so they have shot themselves in the foot because imediatley they put the prices up the contract becomes void thats why in the letter they offer you 2 months half pirce to stay another 12 months so for all of you who's price has gone up i would consider checking out the competition before you phone them as you can get a better deal BE broadband is offering standalone 8meg 40gb download limit for £7.50 per month but you have to be in an llu area and its for 12 months so unfortunatley its no good for me but the post office is offering line rental calls and unlimited 8 meg for 25.50 per month subject to 12 months contract so there are better deals and i can get the post office broadband so i am considering it.
